Expressive Guitars

This sampler instrument patch package includes 6 unique sampler instruments of electric guitar. Three original guitars have been sampled in a performance context at each fret over the covered note span. Each sample was carefully tuned to fit into the electronic studio’s micro tuning capabilities. Some patches combine two different guitar recordings.

These recordings were done with a Gibson SG type of guitar playing the humbucker type bridge pickup through the Sovtek MIG-60 cooking both the first stage’s three 12AX7A tubes and the output stage’s two EL-34 tubes driving a Marshall Lead Series cabinet of one 12” speaker element. The guitar’s tone control knob were carefully matched together with the overdrive of pre amp and power amp stages to achieve the ultimately sweet crunch of the loudspeaker element. Two strings “power chords” were recorded for each fret as well as drop-down tuning down to C (the tuning historically used by ZZ Top among others). We also recorded a longer and shorter version of “one string note falls” sliding down the neck. Great for fill-ins o r weird hooks.

Silver Queen

The EXS24 sample instrument "Silver Queen" is a multi sample and multi layer sampler instrument containing recordings of Per Boysen's silver Conn tenor sax that was built in 1914. The mouthpiece used for the original playing is an Otto Link nine star, meaning the opening between the metal and the bamboo reed is extremely wide. In combination with a plexi covered reed this mouthpiece gives an extraordinary deep sound. Every note was sampled twice: one tender and breathy note and one loud and growling. The sampler does morph between these two expressions based on MIDI Breath, Expression, After touch or any other preferred MIDI parameter. Silver Queen comes with several sampler instrument versions so you can use the one that corresponds to the specific physical MIDI instrument you are playing. Or you can modify the sampler settings as you wish. Price: 15 USD
